Journalist and cameraman struck by large wave during live broadcast in Spain
On October 23, 2026, a television crew from ETB2 experienced a dangerous incident in Ondarroa, Spain, while reporting on severe weather conditions. Reporter Sergio Ovejero and his cameraman were standing near the coastline to describe the storm when an unexpectedly large wave breached the protective wall. The force of the water engulfed both individuals, causing the live broadcast to be temporarily interrupted as the crew in the studio expressed grave concern for their safety.
Following the incident, the broadcast was successfully restored, confirming that neither the reporter nor the cameraman suffered serious injuries. Anchor Odei Esnaola Ugalde initially voiced uncertainty regarding their condition during the live coverage. In response to subsequent criticism regarding safety protocols, Ovejero stated on social media that no weather warnings were in effect at the time, noting that tourists were present in the area and the road remained open to the public.
