Cyprus Ministry of Transport to install 94 EV charging stations by 2028
The Cypriot Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works has announced a strategic plan to install 94 rapid electric vehicle (EV) charging stations between 2026 and 2028. According to Minister Evanthia Tsolaki, responding to a parliamentary inquiry by Prodromos Alabritis, the project carries a total budget of €10 million and aims to provide comprehensive coverage across the national road network.
The deployment strategy includes 76 chargers for light vehicles and 18 for heavy-duty vehicles, organized into 10 hubs for light transport and three for heavy transit. Installations will cover urban centers including Nicosia, Larnaca, and Limassol, alongside strategic regional locations such as Alampra, Kofinou, Evrychou, Saittas, Mandria in Paphos, Polis Chrysochous, and Paralimni.
Implementation will proceed in stages: 16 light vehicle chargers are slated for 2026, followed by 48 light and 12 heavy-duty chargers in 2027. The remaining infrastructure is scheduled for completion in 2028. This initiative represents a significant expansion of national infrastructure aimed at facilitating the transition to electric mobility.
