Elon Musk invests one billion dollars in Skydance
Elon Musk has invested approximately $1 billion into Skydance, the media conglomerate led by David Ellison and Ynon Kreiz. This capital injection, first reported by Semafor and CNBC, is part of a broader equity fundraising effort following the October 6, 2026, merger between Paramount and Warner Bros. Discovery.
The newly formed entity faces the immense challenge of managing a debt load estimated at $80 billion. The co-CEOs are currently overseeing the complex integration of the two historic film studios, the Paramount+ and HBO Max streaming platforms, as well as various television networks and news divisions. The company has publicly declared an ambitious goal to achieve $6 billion in cost savings over the next three years.
As part of this massive corporate reorganization, the company has informed employees that significant layoffs are imminent. According to estimates from Los Angeles County officials, these restructuring efforts could result in the loss of approximately 4,500 jobs within the film and television sector. Following the announcement of Musk's investment, Skydance shares experienced a slight decline of about 1%. Neither representatives for Musk nor the company have provided immediate comments regarding the transaction.
