Minister of agriculture addresses Cyprus Recycling Organization environmental awards
On October 23, 2026, the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment of Cyprus, Christos Senekis, addressed the Environmental Awards ceremony organized by the Cyprus Recycling Organization (OAK). The event served as a platform to recognize individuals and entities that demonstrate exceptional commitment to waste management and environmental protection beyond standard compliance.
A primary focus of the Minister’s address was the management of Construction and Demolition Waste (CDW), which he identified as a key priority for the Ministry. Mr. Senekis highlighted the role of CDW management in supporting the national circular economy, emphasizing the need for separate waste collection at construction sites and selective dismantling during large-scale demolition projects.
The government intends to further integrate recycled raw materials into the technical specifications of public works to ensure a sustainable infrastructure development. The cooperation between the State, recycling systems, and waste management professionals remains a fundamental pillar of the ministry's current strategy, as the authorities aim to increase the efficiency of material recovery and reduce the environmental footprint of the construction sector.
