Cyprus ministry secures funding for legal representation in asylum cases
On October 6, 2026, the Cypriot Deputy Ministry of Migration and International Protection signed a funding agreement with the Ministry of Interior’s Directorate for European Funds. The agreement, labeled AMIF/SO1/2026/10, aims to improve the operational capacity of the Deputy Ministry in managing migration and asylum-related judicial cases.
The project involves securing specialized legal services from law firms or consortia of experts to represent the state in court. By obtaining these external legal resources, the Deputy Ministry intends to streamline its legal response in asylum proceedings, ensuring more effective management of the increasing volume of judicial challenges currently faced by the government regarding international protection and migration status.
This initiative serves as part of the broader efforts by the Republic of Cyprus to strengthen its administrative and legal structures in handling migration flows. The project is co-financed by the Internal Affairs Funds and establishes a structured framework for the state to receive professional legal assistance in judicial processes.
