Man injured by piece of glass found in bakery product in Serres
On Wednesday, October 21, a 35-year-old man from Serres, Greece, suffered mouth injuries after consuming a piece of glass hidden inside a bagel-like bread product (koulouri). The glass fragment, measuring 2.1 by 0.6 centimeters, became embedded in the man's tongue and palate, causing significant bleeding and necessitating a visit to the local hospital for emergency medical treatment.
The victim's attorney, Dimitris Golemis, reported that the product was purchased from a local bakery belonging to a larger regional chain. According to the attorney, the incident could have been far more severe, as the food was initially purchased for the man's three-year-old child. The child consumed approximately half of the item before leaving the remainder, which the father subsequently ate, leading to the accidental discovery of the foreign object.
The man avoided swallowing the shard at the last moment, preventing potentially life-threatening internal injuries. No further details regarding legal actions against the bakery chain or official food safety investigations have been publicly announced following the hospital visit.
