Fabiano reaches 60 European appearances for Omonia

Brazilian goalkeeper Fabiano reached a significant milestone on October 22, 2026, by making his 60th European appearance for Omonia Nicosia. The match took place against the Portuguese club Benfica, where Fabiano solidified his status as the record holder for European appearances in the club's history.

Despite the milestone, the match ended in a 1-4 defeat for Omonia at the GSP Stadium. Although Omonia performed well during the first half, Benfica’s superior class proved decisive in the second half. Notably, Omonia’s Kakoullis scored a historic goal during the encounter, and Benfica player Vangelis Pavlidis received attention for his decision not to celebrate his goal out of respect for the opposing team.

The event serves as a notable individual achievement for the player known as the team's "guardian angel," even as the club reflects on the lessons learned from the recent loss to the Portuguese side. The team management, including coach Berg, has since focused on addressing defensive errors that contributed to the final scoreline, as the club looks ahead to future European competition fixtures.
