Lifeguards rescue two people after sailboat crash in Chloraka
On Saturday, October 24, 2026, a maritime rescue operation took place near the coastal area of Chloraka, Cyprus. Two Russian nationals, a 55-year-old father and his 22-year-old son, were rescued after their small sailboat collided with rocks and suffered extensive damage. The incident occurred shortly after 14:00 while the pair was attempting to reach a local artificial reef. Heavy wave action caused the vessel to drift off course and strike the shoreline, resulting in the boat being significantly destroyed.
Two lifeguards, Alexis Konstantinou and Panagiotis Leonidou, immediately responded to the scene upon noticing the danger. The rescue operation was challenging as the two men initially refused to abandon their vessel despite the severe damage and dangerous sea conditions. One of the victims had already sustained abrasions after falling into the water. Through the determined efforts of the lifeguards, both individuals were eventually brought to safety, preventing a potential tragedy. No further injuries or ongoing investigative actions were reported following the successful extraction of the father and son.
