EU Agriculture and Fisheries Council meets to discuss post-2027 policies
The European Union Agriculture and Fisheries Council is scheduled to convene in Luxembourg on October 26 and 27, 2026. Cyprus Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Christos Senekis, is traveling to the event to participate in discussions concerning the future of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) beyond 2027.
During the council sessions, Minister Senekis intends to advocate for a robustly funded agricultural policy that emphasizes fair income for farmers, the reduction of bureaucratic burdens, and increased flexibility for member states. Regarding international trade, the Minister will prioritize the establishment of fair competition standards and improved access for Cypriot producers to global markets.
In the fisheries sector, the Council aims to reach a formal agreement on fishing opportunities in the Baltic Sea for 2027. Furthermore, representatives will work on defining the European Union’s unified position ahead of the upcoming meeting of the International Commission for the Conservation of Atlantic Tunas (ICCAT). These deliberations are critical for shaping the bloc's legislative framework regarding both food security and marine resource management for the coming years.
