Alert in Kalo Chorio over individual impersonating police officer
On October 25, 2026, the Community Council of Kalo Chorio in Larnaca issued a warning following reports of a fraudster impersonating a police officer. An individual wearing a police uniform, but lacking a service vehicle, reportedly stopped an elderly driver to conduct a fake traffic check. The suspect requested identification and driver’s license, entered details into an electronic device, and claimed the vehicle lacked insurance. He demanded an immediate 70-euro fine in cash, though eventually accepted 50 euros after the victim claimed to have less money. A second incident involving a relative of the same victim was reported on the same day.
While the community is urging residents to be cautious and report suspicious activity, police have begun investigating the incidents. Sources offer slightly varying details regarding the amounts extorted, with some reports mentioning a secondary incident involving 5 euros. Authorities are currently attempting to locate the victims to gather statements and determine if the suspect is connected to similar recent frauds reported in Nicosia. As of now, police confirm they are looking into the matter, although some initial communications suggested no official complaints had been logged at that time.
