Police hunt 44-year-old man posing as officer in Nicosia and Larnaca
Cypriot authorities are actively searching for 44-year-old Andreas Louros, who is suspected of posing as a police officer to defraud elderly citizens between February and October 2026. The suspect reportedly wore a t-shirt with a police logo and approached victims in the districts of Nicosia and Larnaca, claiming that they had outstanding traffic fines. He allegedly coerced victims into paying these fictitious fines on the spot, with reported amounts ranging from 5 to 150 euros.
The police released the suspect's photograph and identity to the public, urging anyone with information to contact the Nicosia Criminal Investigation Department (CID) or the Citizen’s Hotline. Authorities have explicitly warned the public that all official traffic fines are paid exclusively through the government’s online portal and that no officer would ever demand cash payments in person.
While currently at large, the suspect recently posted a video on social media denying the allegations and claiming that the warrant against him is an act of revenge. He stated his intention to surrender to the authorities, who are continuing their investigation into the incidents of impersonation and obtaining goods under false pretenses.
