Police hunt 44-year-old man posing as officer to scam elderly residents
Cyprus Police are actively searching for 44-year-old Andreas Louros, who is suspected of posing as a police officer to defraud elderly citizens across the Larnaca and Nicosia districts. Between February and October 2026, the suspect allegedly approached victims while wearing a shirt labeled "Police," presenting fake documents or claiming that the individuals had outstanding traffic fines. He would then demand immediate cash payments to "settle" these penalties on the spot.
Authorities have linked Louros to at least four reported incidents, including two in Kalo Chorio, Larnaca, where victims were scammed for amounts such as 50 and 5 euros. One report indicates that in some cases, the suspect successfully extracted up to 150 euros. Following a wave of public concern, the Kalo Chorio Community Council issued a warning urging residents to remain vigilant and avoid sharing personal information or cash with strangers.
While police have released his photograph and details to aid in his arrest, Louros has reportedly posted a video on social media claiming he is innocent and intends to surrender to the authorities. He attributed the arrest warrant to personal revenge by a third party. The investigation remains ongoing as police continue to verify reports and attempt to locate all affected victims.
