Internal turmoil in the National Unity Party following primary elections
The National Unity Party (UBP) in the occupied territories of Cyprus is facing significant internal instability following the recent primary elections held to select candidates for the upcoming December 6th legislative polls. A total of 8,929 voters participated in the process, but the outcome triggered widespread backlash, leading to 17 formal objections regarding the integrity of the results. As a direct consequence, election authorities have ordered a full recount of the votes to verify the accuracy of the nominations.
Amidst this political unrest, Hakan Dincyurek, the self-proclaimed Minister of Health, announced his withdrawal from the candidate selection process. Furthermore, Dincyurek expressed his intent to resign from his ministerial position. While reports from local media outlets such as Bugun Kibris, Detay Kibris, and Giynik Gazetesi confirm the recount and the resignations, the situation remains fluid as officials work to stabilize the candidate lists before the general election date. Investigations into the objections are currently ongoing to address the grievances raised by the disgruntled candidates.
