Cyprus prepares for severe weather and yellow warning
A low-pressure system arriving from the Balkans and Greece is set to affect Cyprus starting late Tuesday, October 27, 2026. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow warning for severe thunderstorms and potential hail, which will be in effect from 2:00 a.m. on Wednesday, October 28, until 6:00 p.m. the same day. Meteorological official Andreas Chrysanthou confirmed that the inclement weather will coincide with national anniversary parades, likely causing disruptions particularly in coastal areas. Precipitation is expected to begin in the west and north before spreading across the island.
Following the initial onset, conditions are forecast to worsen on Thursday, October 29, with more intense and prolonged rain and storms. Temperatures will drop significantly by Friday, falling to levels below the seasonal average, with inland lows reaching approximately 15°C and mountain temperatures dropping to 7°C. Authorities have advised the public to remain vigilant as the instability persists, while meteorologists continue to monitor whether further warnings will be necessary for the subsequent days.
