Driver arrested after colliding with police officer in Limassol
A 26-year-old man was arrested in Limassol, Cyprus, on Sunday morning following a hit-and-run incident involving a police officer. The event took place shortly after 10:00 am on Saturday, October 24, on Anexartisias Street, when a member of the Bicycle Policing Unit attempted to stop the driver for a traffic check. Instead of complying, the driver accelerated to escape, leading to a collision with the officer's bicycle. The officer suffered injuries to his leg and neck but was treated and discharged from a private clinic.
After the collision, the suspect fled the scene, allegedly driving dangerously, entering the opposite lane, and running a red light. Police identified the suspect as the registered owner of the vehicle and executed an arrest warrant on Sunday. The man has since provided a written admission to all traffic offenses under investigation but offered no explanation for his actions.
The case is scheduled to be heard at the Limassol District Court on Monday. In addition to the traffic charges, authorities are filing a second case against the individual concerning a drug test that he previously evaded.
