Overnight Russian strikes target Ukrainian cities and infrastructure
Overnight Russian strikes on Ukraine resulted in at least six injuries and significant damage to power and port infrastructure. According to regional governor Mykhailo Semikin, four people were wounded in Zaporizhzhia, while the State Emergency Service reported two additional injuries in the Chernihiv region.
The Russian Ministry of Defence claimed responsibility for strikes against power stations in Kharkiv and the Khmelnytskyi region, as well as a warehouse near Kharkiv. Additionally, the ministry stated it targeted port infrastructure in Chornomorsk and a cargo vessel headed for Odesa, which it alleged was being used for military purposes.
These developments occur amid ongoing tensions regarding Ukraine's strategy of targeting Russian oil refineries. The United States has urged Kyiv to halt these attacks, citing concerns over global energy prices amid the Trump administration's conflict with Iran and upcoming midterm elections. President Volodymyr Zelenskiy stated that Ukraine might cease refinery strikes only if Russia halts its attacks on Ukrainian power infrastructure, or if the U.S. provides Patriot missiles and approves the use of Starshield for missile detection over Russian territory.
