Saudi air defense intercepts missiles amid Houthi claims of attack on Ras Tanura
In the early hours of October 26 and 27, 2026, the Saudi-led coalition fighting in the Yemen war announced the interception of multiple ballistic missiles launched by the Houthi movement. Initial reports from Sigma Live suggested a single missile aimed at Riyadh was destroyed, while subsequent reports from Philenews stated that three missiles were intercepted over the kingdom's eastern province. Colonel Turki al-Maliki, the coalition spokesperson, confirmed the destruction of the projectiles, labeling the Houthi forces as a terrorist paramilitary organization.
Meanwhile, the Houthi military spokesperson, Yahya Sarea, claimed responsibility for an attack on the Ras Tanura oil refinery, alleging the strike caused a fire at the facility. Saudi authorities have not confirmed any damage to the refinery, which serves as a critical hub for the kingdom’s oil exports, and have focused their official statements on the successful interception of the missiles. Bloomberg reported that Saudi officials have brought the situation under control.
This incident marks an escalation in hostilities that have intensified since September, as the Houthi militia increases its targeting of Saudi territory. The conflict continues to pose significant security challenges for regional energy infrastructure.
