Cyprus strengthens cooperation with the European Public Prosecutor's Office
On October 26, 2026, the Attorney General of the Republic of Cyprus, George Savvides, addressed a regional meeting of the European Public Prosecutor's Office (EPPO) held in Cyprus. During the event, he emphasized that recent legislative and operational measures implemented by the Legal Service are specifically designed to bolster the role and effectiveness of the EPPO within the country.
Savvides highlighted that the ongoing collaboration is intended to improve the detection and prosecution of financial crimes both in Cyprus and across other European Union member states. According to the Attorney General, the meeting serves as a platform for regional prosecutors to coordinate judicial efforts and deepen mutual trust, which he identified as the cornerstone of the European legal space. He noted that the EPPO has successfully established itself as a pivotal mechanism within the European criminal justice system, effectively revolutionizing the handling of complex financial fraud cases.
The initiative reflects a broader commitment by the Cypriot authorities to align their domestic legal framework with EU-wide standards. Moving forward, the government expects this partnership to yield measurable results in combating economic criminality, confirming the status of the EPPO as an essential tool for maintaining the integrity of the European financial system.
