Cyriel Dessers leads Panathinaikos to victory against Volos

On October 25, 2026, Panathinaikos secured a 1-0 victory against Volos at the Panthessaliko Stadium. The decisive moment occurred in the 46th minute when striker Cyriel Dessers scored following a precise cross from Tetteh, effectively unlocking the opposition's defense and ensuring three points for the visiting team managed by Jess Thorup.

This goal marks Dessers' ninth of the season across all competitions. He has registered six goals in the Conference League and three in the Super League, with successful strikes against Levadiakos, Asteras Tripolis, and now Volos. His current performance rate stands at 0.64 goals per match, a statistic that invites comparisons to the prolific former Panathinaikos forward Marcus Berg.

Analysts have noted that Dessers' scoring frequency currently exceeds Berg's performance during the 2013-14 and 2015-16 seasons. While still slightly behind Berg's peak scoring efficiency from his most productive years, the Nigerian forward has become a central figure for the club's current campaign, consistently contributing to the team's standing in the league rankings.
