Average monthly earnings in Cyprus rise to 2,548 euros in second quarter of 2026
Average gross monthly earnings in Cyprus reached €2,548 during the second quarter of 2026, marking a 3% increase compared to the same period in 2025, according to preliminary data from the Statistical Service (Cystat). When compared to the first quarter of 2026, seasonally adjusted earnings rose by 0.6%.
Despite the overall growth, significant wage disparities persist. Men earned an average of €2,708 compared to €2,345 for women, though female earnings grew faster at 4.1% annually versus 2.1% for men. Income distribution reveals that 41.4% of employees earn between €1,500 and €2,999 per month. Notably, one in three employees earns less than €1,500, with foreign workers disproportionately represented in this lower bracket at 46.3% compared to 27% of Cypriot nationals. Conversely, 8.1% of foreign employees fall into the highest salary bracket of over €6,000, compared to 4.3% of locals.
While the wage gap is narrowing, analysts note that these averages do not account for inflation, leaving the impact on actual purchasing power unclear. The data highlights a continued concentration of labor income within middle-tier brackets, with only 5.6% of the workforce earning above €6,000.
