Wealthyhood launches initiative to unlock inactive shares in Cyprus Stock Exchange
The European investment application Wealthyhood, operating in Cyprus as Wealthyhood x BoC in partnership with the Bank of Cyprus, has launched a new initiative to assist investors in regaining access to shares held within the Special Account of the Cyprus Stock Exchange’s (CSE) Central Depository and Registry. These inactive shares, which are estimated to be worth millions of euros, remain legally owned by investors but are currently untradeable until transferred to an authorized custodian or participant.
The platform has begun processing transfers for Cypriot investors after receiving requests over the past months and is now scaling the service to all affected shareholders. The need for this initiative became particularly evident following recent dividend distributions, such as those by Demetra Holdings, where records indicated that only about 4,000 of the eligible shareholders were able to easily access their holdings. Wealthyhood is now contacting various listed companies on the CSE to facilitate broader information campaigns.
Moving forward, the initiative aims to enable investors to view, sell, or trade their previously locked assets directly through the Wealthyhood x BoC application. By simplifying the transfer process, the company seeks to restore liquidity to thousands of portfolios that have remained dormant for years.
