Government officials inspect landslide-affected Pissouri as sewage plans are discussed
On Friday, October 23, 2026, the Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development and Environment, Christos Senekis, conducted an on-site inspection of the village of Pissouri, which has long suffered from persistent and destructive land slippage. The Minister was accompanied by the President of the Limassol Self-Government Organization (EOA) Yiannis Tsouloftas, Limassol District Governor Michalis Michail, and Interior Ministry Permanent Secretary Elikkos Elia.
During the visit, local community leader Panayiotis Mavroudis presented a memorandum detailing the urgent needs of the residents, whose homes have sustained significant damage. A central request from the community council is the construction of a comprehensive sewage and rainwater drainage system. The aim is to reduce water seepage into the subsoil, which is believed to exacerbate ground instability. The Limassol EOA has expressed its willingness to undertake the construction of this network, provided the project is deemed geologically suitable and receives the necessary state funding.
This visit addresses a chronic issue that gained significant public attention following a scientific study published in June 2025, which found that land movement had rendered numerous residences unsafe for habitation. While officials noted that the intensity of the landslides has recently decreased, the phenomenon remains active. Future actions depend on the formal approval of the drainage project and the allocation of state resources to mitigate further damage.
