Voting irregularities cause internal party crisis in the UBP
On Saturday, internal primary elections for the National Unity Party (UBP) were marked by significant procedural failures, leading to a potential crisis regarding the verification of results. Muslu Akguney, the vote coordinator, admitted that the election process lacked preparations for a manual recount, as organizers had relied entirely on a digital system.
Reports indicate that voters failed to follow instructions, with many participants keeping their ballots, discarding them on the floor, or tearing them up instead of casting them into the ballot boxes. Akguney confirmed that the physical count of ballots in the boxes may be lower than the number of votes recorded in the digital system. This discrepancy poses a risk to the accuracy of the final candidate rankings, as the missing physical evidence complicates any potential verification efforts. The lack of standardized protocols for ballot handling has left the party leadership facing uncertainty regarding the integrity of the selection process.
