Limassol officials demand faster progress on regional infrastructure projects
On October 26, 2026, the Limassol Chamber of Commerce and Industry (EVEL), along with local members of parliament and mayors of Greater Limassol, issued an urgent appeal for the acceleration of critical regional infrastructure projects. The stakeholders expressed deep concern over insufficient funding allocations for the Limassol region within the proposed 2027 state budget and are demanding that binding timelines be established to prevent further delays in public works.
The initiative follows a series of high-level consultations, including meetings held on October 19 and October 23, 2026. The primary focus of these discussions is the severe traffic congestion plaguing the city. Specifically, the officials are prioritizing the immediate advancement of the North Bypass project and essential perpendicular road connections. They argue that the current pace of infrastructure development is incompatible with the city's growth requirements.
As a direct consequence of these discussions, the group has requested a formal meeting with the President of the Republic to address these concerns. They emphasize that without immediate policy intervention and guaranteed funding, the city's road network will remain incapable of supporting the region's socio-economic needs, necessitating urgent action before the 2027 budget is finalized.
