German business climate improves for the sixth consecutive month in October
In October 2026, the German business climate showed a stronger-than-expected improvement, marking the sixth consecutive month of growth. According to the Ifo Institute, the business climate index rose to 90.2 points, exceeding the 90.0 points predicted by Reuters analysts and marking an increase from 89.9 points in September. The Ifo President, Clemens Fuest, stated that the economic recovery is continuing.
Key components of the survey indicate that economic expectations rose to 91.6 points from 90.4 points in the previous month. Thomas Gitzel, chief economist at VP Bank, noted that businesses are more optimistic about their future prospects than at any time in the last four and a half years. This positive momentum is reportedly driven entirely by firms in the manufacturing sector.
Against this backdrop, the German government has revised its growth forecasts upward to 1.3%. This shift reflects a sustained trend of increased business confidence regarding the country's economic outlook, reinforcing the assessment that the German economy remains on a path of gradual recovery.
