APOEL faces disciplinary sanctions for fan misconduct
The Cyprus Football Association (KOP) disciplinary committee has imposed sanctions on APOEL following incidents of racist chanting and unauthorized pitch entry by supporters during a recent match against Pafos FC. The penalties include a €40,000 fine and a requirement to play one home match behind closed doors, a measure the club fulfilled during their cup game against Chalkanoras Idaliou on October 28, 2026.
Additionally, the club received a one-match away ticket ban, affecting the upcoming derby against Omonia Nicosia scheduled for November 21, 2026. APOEL leadership has expressed strong condemnation of the fans responsible, labeling such behaviors as morally and financially damaging, especially during the club's centenary year. To mitigate the impact of the away ban, the club has initiated an appeal process through the KOP Appeals Committee, citing recent precedents involving other clubs, in hopes of allowing their supporters to attend the November 21 derby.
