Nicosia implements traffic restrictions for Oxi Day celebrations
Nicosia is enforcing significant traffic and parking restrictions on October 28, 2026, to accommodate the annual Oxi Day parade and the doxology service at the Cathedral of Apostolos Varnavas. Authorities have implemented a parking ban since midnight on October 27 across key city center locations, including Archbishopric Square, and along Omirou, Vyronos, and Evagorou avenues.
Road closures are scheduled in stages throughout the day. Starting at 9:00 a.m., segments of Omirou and Vyronos avenues are closed to traffic. By 9:30 a.m., closures expand to the main parade route, encompassing Michalakis Karaolis Street and portions of Dimosthenis Severis Avenue. Additionally, the use of drones has been prohibited in the vicinity of the event. Public bus services in Nicosia are also experiencing operational changes as a direct consequence of these closures.
Visitors attending the festivities are advised to utilize designated parking areas, specifically at the D'Avila moat, the area below the Town Hall, near the Fire Service, and the space by the Kolokasi opening. These measures are temporary and intended to ensure the safety and organization of the national anniversary commemorations.
