Drug-related arrests of a police officer in Nicosia and a resident in Paphos
Police in Cyprus have reported two separate drug-related arrests involving a 42-year-old police officer in Nicosia and a 53-year-old man in Paphos. In Nicosia, the officer was apprehended on Monday after a search of her vehicle revealed 3.4 grams of cannabis and six hand-rolled cigarettes containing the substance. She has been charged with illegal possession and use of drugs, released on a 3,000 euro personal bail, and suspended from duty pending a court hearing set for December 1. Reports indicate she cooperated with authorities during the search.
In a separate development, a 53-year-old man was arrested in Paphos on Tuesday following a police raid on his home. Officers witnessed the suspect attempting to discard a case containing approximately 104 grams of cocaine into a nearby field. A subsequent search of his residence resulted in the seizure of 800 euros in cash, a precision scale, and a wooden container, both testing positive for traces of cocaine. The Paphos District Court has ordered the man to be remanded in custody for five days as the Drug Law Enforcement Unit (YKAN) continues its investigation.
