Vangelis Liolios denies 49 charges in match-fixing investigation
Vangelis Liolios, president of the Hellenic Basketball Federation (EOK), has formally testified against 49 charges related to alleged match-fixing in basketball. In his defense memorandum, Liolios vehemently denied any involvement in the reported illegal activities, asserting that he has been the target of extortion and an organized attempt to destroy his professional and personal reputation.
During his testimony, Liolios challenged the credibility of witnesses and contested the narrative surrounding his meeting with Maroussi BC owner Dimos Stasinopoulos. He maintained that evidence does not show any interference by him in refereeing decisions. To secure his release, he has offered to resign from all administrative positions at the EOK and refrain from any involvement in basketball until the case is finalized.
He contends that his legal troubles are motivated by a desire to remove him from the federation’s leadership. The former basketball official continues to insist that he did not act outside his institutional duties and remains firm in his plea of innocence regarding all 49 counts.
