Greek adaptation of A Christmas Carol to stream on Disney+
The Greek film adaptation of Charles Dickens' 'A Christmas Carol', titled 'Ta Kalanda ton Christougennon' ('The Christmas Carols'), is set to premiere on the Disney+ streaming platform during the upcoming holiday season. While no specific release date has been announced, the film marks the transition of the production from theaters to streaming after its initial theatrical release on December 4, 2025, distributed by Feelgood Entertainment.
The film reimagines the classic Victorian story by setting the action within the mountainous villages of Epirus, Greece. Actor Loris Loizidis portrays the protagonist, Lykourgos, a miserly figure inspired by Ebenezer Scrooge. The project features scriptwriting and artistic direction by Loris Loizidis, with Christos Kanakis serving as director. The production team includes executive producer Tasos Papanastasiou from Main Character Entertainment and producer Marinos Charalambous of Avaton Films.
Following its successful theatrical run, the production aims to bring the themes of holiday magic and social giving to a wider audience on the digital platform. The streaming release represents the latest step for this local production, which blends the international legacy of Dickens with specific Greek cultural elements.
