Cyprus begins distribution of influenza vaccines following delays
On October 27, 2026, the Cypriot Ministry of Health announced the arrival of approximately 80,000 influenza vaccines, marking the beginning of the vaccination distribution process after international supply chain issues caused initial scheduling delays. Deputy Director of the Ministry, Elisavet Konstantinou, confirmed that the vaccines are currently being processed for delivery to healthcare providers across the country.
Of the total received, 10,000 doses have already been dispatched for distribution to the private sector, including private doctors and pharmacies. The remaining 70,000 doses are being allocated for distribution to personal doctors for adults and children through a collaboration between the Ministry and the Health Insurance Organization. The vaccination campaign prioritizes vulnerable groups, following guidance from the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control (ECDC) and the World Health Organization regarding the current winter season.
While the current focus is on influenza, health authorities remain vigilant regarding the concurrent circulation of COVID-19, respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), and pneumococcus. The Ministry of Health is managing the distribution via a contracted logistics firm to ensure efficient access to the vaccines for the general public.
