Cyprus beauty association condemns mislabeling of illicit medical procedures
On October 27, 2026, the Cyprus Association of Beauticians issued a formal statement expressing strong opposition to the reporting of private gatherings, known as "Botox parties," as aesthetic institutes. The association responded to recent reports involving a young woman hospitalized following an allergic reaction during such an event, which occurred in a private residence.
The association emphasized that the term "aesthetic institute" should not be applied to residential settings or locations where unauthorized injectable procedures take place. They argued that such labeling is misleading, harms the reputation of licensed professionals, and fails to distinguish between legitimate businesses and unregulated environments. Furthermore, the association clarified that injectable procedures are strictly medical in nature and fall entirely outside the professional duties and legal scope of practice for licensed beauticians.
Moving forward, the association has called upon media outlets to demonstrate greater responsibility and precision when using professional terminology. They insist that the actual operating status and professional identity of any premises must be verified before they are characterized as aesthetic centers in news coverage to avoid the stigmatization of the entire industry.
