Cyprus video game market ranks 35th in Europe according to new report
On October 27, 2026, the European Audiovisual Observatory released a comprehensive report titled 'The European market volume for video games: Consumer spending 2021–2025.' The data reveals that Cyprus recorded €12.51 million in consumer spending on video games during 2025, positioning it as the second smallest market among the 36 European countries analyzed, trailing only Malta.
In terms of individual expenditure, the report highlights a significant disparity: the per capita spending in Cyprus was €9.93, which is nearly five times lower than the European average of €47.29. Mobile gaming platforms dominate the Cypriot market, accounting for approximately 98% of total recorded spending. Researchers noted that the data for these smaller markets reflects high smartphone penetration, while the presence of traditional consoles and personal computers remains limited in official records.
The findings underscore a broader European trend where the total video game market across the 36 studied nations reached €27.73 billion in 2025. While Cyprus, Luxembourg, and Malta share similar characteristics in their market structure, the report serves as a baseline for understanding how consumer acquisition and payment habits for digital content vary across the continent.
