European Commissioner for Fisheries and Oceans, Costas Kadis, is scheduled to visit Cyprus this Thursday and Friday for a series of high-level engagements. The visit aims to strengthen cooperation between the European Commission and Cyprus, with a specific focus on the blue economy and the sustainable management of marine resources.
On Thursday, Commissioner Kadis will deliver the keynote address at the Circular Water Conference hosted by the University of Cyprus. During this event, he is also expected to hold a bilateral meeting with the Cypriot Commissioner for Environment and Animal Welfare, Ilias Myrianthous. The agenda shifts on Friday to practical field assessments and direct dialogue with stakeholders, including a visit to the Zygi fishing shelter. Here, the Commissioner will meet with members of the local fishing community and representatives of the sector at the Zygi Community Council to discuss future challenges in sustainable fishing.
To conclude his visit, Commissioner Kadis will participate in the groundbreaking ceremony for the new School of Marine Sciences.
