Government announces 2027 tender for Paphos–Polis Chrysochous highway
Government spokesman Konstantinos Letymbiotis announced on October 27, 2026, that the government plans to issue a new tender in 2027 for both phases of the long-awaited Paphos–Polis Chrysochous highway. Speaking at the Paphos Chamber of Commerce and Industry, he emphasized that moving forward requires discarding the previous problematic contract, which he described as an obstacle to progress rather than a catalyst for development.
Providing context on the stalled project, Letymbiotis noted that design efforts began in 1990, with initial 2007 projections aiming for a 2013 completion. A contract signed in 2021 for €73 million faced severe delays, with only 4 per cent of the value completed by early 2023, despite 47.6 per cent of the timeline having elapsed. By October 2024, only 21 per cent of the project was finished, while the contractor requested an additional €36.2 million in compensation. The government has signaled that shifting toward a new, viable procurement process is necessary to finally deliver the infrastructure project to the Paphos region.
