Abu Dhabi to host EuroLeague Final Four in 2027 and 2029
The EuroLeague officially announced that the capital of the United Arab Emirates, Abu Dhabi, will host the Final Four tournaments for both the 2027 and 2029 seasons. This decision marks a significant extension of the basketball competition's international expansion strategy, following the successful implementation of similar events, including the 2025 tournament held in the same city.
EuroLeague CEO Paulius Motiejunas stated that the multi-year partnership with the Abu Dhabi Department of Culture and Tourism reflects a commitment to reaching a broader global audience. The strategy integrates traditional European basketball markets with world-class facilities and high-profile international cities to enhance the league's global footprint. The organizers emphasized that the model combines the sport's European heritage with the tourism appeal and sporting infrastructure of the UAE.
This move represents a continued shift for the EuroLeague toward hosting major events outside of its traditional geographical base. The partnership is framed as a strategic pillar for the league's future growth, ensuring that European club basketball maintains visibility in emerging markets while leveraging Abu Dhabi's status as a key partner in the organization's long-term vision.
