Unstable weather conditions continue across Cyprus
Following a period of severe weather influenced by a low-pressure system moving from the Aegean and Rhodes, Cyprus has experienced intermittent rainfall, isolated thunderstorms, and hail since late October 2026. The Meteorological Department issued multiple yellow weather warnings to address strong winds, which reached 7 to 8 on the Beaufort scale during storms, and heavy precipitation measuring between 35 and 55 millimeters per hour.
While the initial intense low-pressure system has weakened, a weak low-pressure field continues to affect the region. Forecasts for the coming days indicate persistent atmospheric instability with localized showers and potential thunderstorms, particularly in mountainous areas, the interior, and northern parts of the island. Daytime temperatures are expected to reach approximately 25 degrees Celsius in lowland and coastal areas, while mountainous regions will experience cooler conditions around 16 degrees Celsius.
Authorities continue to monitor the situation, noting that while no significant changes are expected in the immediate future, local cloud cover and sporadic rain will remain the primary features of the weekend. Citizens are advised to remain updated, as some inland areas may see fog formation during the night and early morning hours. By next week, temperatures are projected to rise slightly above average seasonal values.
