Severe weather conditions hit Cyprus causing property damage in Paphos
A severe low-pressure system originating from the region of Rhodes has brought heavy rainfall and strong winds to Cyprus, prompting the Department of Meteorology to issue a yellow weather warning. The warning, active from 09:00 to 17:00 on October 29, 2026, cautioned of isolated strong thunderstorms with precipitation reaching 35 to 55 millimeters per hour and hail. Forecasters also warned that wind gusts could reach 7 to 8 on the Beaufort scale.
The inclement weather has already caused infrastructure issues, specifically in Paphos. On the morning of October 29, high winds caused a metal pergola on the roof of a building on Griva Digeni Avenue to collapse onto the street. The structure fell onto two parked vehicles, causing extensive material damage. Fortunately, authorities confirmed that no injuries occurred during the incident. Police and municipal officials are currently documenting the damages.
Temperatures are expected to reach around 23°C inland and on the coast, with mountain areas remaining significantly cooler at 12°C. While the peak of the storm is expected today, meteorologists suggest that weather conditions will become more localized and stable moving into the weekend, though partial cloud cover and isolated showers may persist.
