Adverse weather conditions affect road safety in Cyprus
Adverse weather conditions have caused significant road safety concerns across Cyprus on October 28 and 29, 2026. On Wednesday morning, heavy torrential rains in the Kofinou area severely limited visibility for motorists, leading police to issue urgent warnings for drivers to reduce speed and maintain safe following distances. Additional weather-related issues included power outages in parts of Larnaca and Paphos, as a yellow warning for thunderstorms and hail remained in effect.
By Thursday, October 29, the focus of police alerts shifted to the Limassol mountain district. Starting around 9:15 a.m., thick fog severely restricted visibility in the areas of Agros, Chandria, and Kyperounta. Authorities have instructed motorists to drive with their low-beam headlights on, maintain safe distances, and exercise extreme caution. Police emphasized that these conditions are dynamic and subject to change, urging the public to stay informed about weather updates before travelling through mountainous road networks.
