AEK Larnaca overtakes Omonia in championship title projections
Following the conclusion of the seventh matchday in the Cyprus League, AEK Larnaca has emerged as the new favorite to win the championship title according to the Football Meets Data statistical platform. The shift in projections follows AEK’s decisive 2-0 victory against Omonia, which allowed the Larnaca-based club to secure the top spot in both the league standings and the predictive analysis.
Statistical data indicates that AEK Larnaca’s probability of winning the championship has risen to 37%, representing a 13-percentage-point increase. Conversely, Omonia, which served as the previous favorite, saw its winning probability drop significantly from approximately 52% to 35%, a decrease of 17 percentage points. While Omonia maintains a competitive position with only a two-percentage-point gap behind AEK, the loss marks their first defeat of the season, having secured only three victories in their opening seven matches. Other teams like Pafos FC currently trail the leaders by four points in the actual league table.
The updated projections highlight the volatility of the ongoing season as teams compete for the title. While the current statistical model favors AEK, the narrow margin between the top contenders indicates that the championship race remains highly competitive with many matches still to be played.
