Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas visits Cyprus for high-level talks
Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas is conducting a two-day working visit to Cyprus on October 29 and 30, 2026. This trip marks his third meeting with Cypriot President Nikos Christodoulides since the latter assumed office, following their last encounter in Palestine in May 2025. The program includes a private meeting at the Presidential Palace in Nicosia followed by a working lunch involving both delegations.
The discussions are focused on several critical issues, including the current situation in the Middle East and the humanitarian role of the Republic of Cyprus. Central to the agenda is the operation of the 'Amalthea' maritime corridor, which facilitates the delivery of humanitarian aid to Gaza. Furthermore, the two leaders are addressing bilateral relations, the state of EU-Palestine ties, and the latest developments concerning the Cyprus problem.
This diplomatic engagement underscores the long-standing political relationship between Cyprus and Palestine. The meeting is viewed by the Cypriot government as an opportunity to maintain communication with all regional actors during a period of complex international developments.
