EBU announces 36 countries for the 71st Eurovision Song Contest in Burgas
The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) has announced that 36 public broadcasters will participate in the 71st Eurovision Song Contest, which is scheduled to take place from May 11 to 15, 2027, at the Arena Burgas in Burgas, Bulgaria. This year's lineup features one more participant than in 2026, marking a significant expansion of the event. A historic addition to the competition is Canada, represented by CBC/Radio-Canada, which became a full EBU member in July 2026. Additionally, North Macedonia is returning to the stage after a four-year hiatus, while the Czech Republic will be absent for financial reasons.
While the current list includes 36 nations, there remains uncertainty regarding the final participation of Spain and Slovenia. Broadcasters RTVE and RTVSLO have been granted a deadline until December to finalize their decisions due to the complexity of the arrangements. Meanwhile, Canada has already begun its selection process, with the public voting for their preferred entry until November 5. The official draw for the two semi-finals is scheduled to take place in Burgas in January 2027, once the final list of competing countries is confirmed.
