Poland to host Lockheed Martin's first Patriot missile maintenance center outside the U.S.
Poland has been selected to host a new Lockheed Martin maintenance facility for Patriot air defense missiles, marking the only site of its kind outside the United States. Polish Deputy Defense Minister Magdalena Sobkowiak-Czarniecka confirmed the development, noting that Poland beat out bids from Germany, the Netherlands, and Norway to secure the project.
The investment is valued at approximately one billion Polish zloty, equivalent to roughly 253.4 million U.S. dollars. Officials stated that global military conflicts, particularly in Ukraine and the Middle East, have significantly depleted air defense stockpiles and caused logistical delays. Consequently, regional nations have sought to establish localized maintenance and production capabilities to ensure readiness. Operation of the new facility is expected to commence in approximately 12 months.
This initiative highlights Poland's increasing role in European defense and its commitment to strengthening security partnerships within NATO and the European Union. The project aims to provide a critical strategic advantage by shortening supply chains and enhancing the availability of interceptor missiles in the region.
