SPAVO awarded as Domestic Abuse Support NGO of the Year

The Association for the Prevention and Handling of Violence in the Family (SPAVO) has been named 'Domestic Abuse Support NGO of the Year 2026/27' at the Southern Europe Prestige Awards. This international recognition highlights the organization's 36-year commitment to protecting and supporting victims of domestic and gender-based violence in Cyprus through specialized intervention services.

The award committee recognized the association's comprehensive service network, which includes the 24-hour national helpline 1440, counseling and psychological support, safe housing for women and children, and the 'Women's House' facility. Beyond victim support, the organization was commended for its programs aimed at perpetrators to break cycles of violence, as well as its transnational collaborations and educational initiatives. These efforts represent a multi-faceted approach to addressing domestic abuse within the Cypriot social structure.
