Israeli election results show no clear majority as Netanyahu alleges fraud
Following the national election held on Tuesday, October 27, 2026, Israel faces political uncertainty after final results confirmed that no party bloc secured the 61-seat majority required to form a government in the 120-member Knesset. Outgoing Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s bloc finished with 53 seats, the main opposition coalition led by Gadi Eisenkot reached 48 seats, and Arab-led parties achieved a record 19 seats.
Netanyahu’s Likud party has challenged the results, alleging without providing public evidence that Arab-led parties engaged in voter fraud, corruption, and the use of illicit software. While election officials stated there is no evidence of systematic compromise, Supreme Court Justice Noam Sohlberg has requested the Shin Bet security agency to investigate serious claims of potential foreign interference. Arab leaders have rejected these accusations, characterizing them as incitement.
The certified results are scheduled to be presented to President Isaac Herzog next Wednesday. Following this, the President will nominate a candidate to attempt the formation of a new government. The political landscape remains fluid as leaders weigh the possibility of a unity government against the sensitivity of forming a coalition involving Arab-led parties.
