Procedures for booking appointments and accessing services under the GeSY system
The State Health Services Organization (OKYpY) in Cyprus has outlined new guidance for beneficiaries to book medical appointments and access healthcare services under the General Health System (GeSY). Patients can schedule visits with specialists via the OKYpY website, through direct telephone communication, or by visiting clinic reception desks in person. While the online platform allows for 24/7 appointment requests, it is noted that digital submission does not guarantee immediate confirmation.
Regarding service access, the GeSY framework distinguishes between services requiring referrals and those accessible directly. Beneficiaries may visit their registered personal doctor without a referral, as this physician serves as the primary contact for initial health evaluations. Other services, such as specialized care, diagnostic tests, or hospitalizations, generally require a formal referral issued by a healthcare professional. These protocols are designed to streamline patient flow within public health centers and state hospitals to ensure efficient service delivery for all eligible citizens.
