Arrests in Limassol following seizure of loaded weapon and ammunition
On October 31, 2026, police in Limassol arrested a 26-year-old Israeli man and a 21-year-old Brazilian woman after discovering a sawn-off shotgun loaded with two cartridges and a bag containing eleven additional rounds in their vehicle. The vehicle was intercepted around 1:25 a.m. on Georgiou Gennadiou Street following a tip-off regarding a suspicious object inside a parked car. The suspects, who had been under police surveillance, denied ownership of the firearm.
The Limassol District Court has issued a five-day detention order against the two suspects. Authorities are investigating their potential involvement in planned criminal activities, as the suspects were reportedly not permanent residents of Limassol and provided conflicting accounts of their presence in the area. Forensic examination revealed that the weapon was registered to a person who deceased in March 2024. Investigators are currently collaborating with international agencies to verify the suspects' backgrounds.
Separately, law enforcement operations in Limassol led to additional arrests, including a 47-year-old man caught with 33 military-grade cartridges and a 50-year-old found with an illegal flobert-type firearm and 14,000 euros in cash. While investigations into these cases continue, police are also conducting wider preventative sweeps across Cyprus to ensure public order.
