Cyprus police conduct major security operations and arrest multiple suspects
During the night of October 30 to 31, 2026, the Cyprus Police carried out widespread, coordinated security operations across urban areas to prevent criminal activity and maintain public order. These operations resulted in the arrest of 14 individuals for various offenses, including illegal possession of firearms, drug offenses, and burglary. Police checked 847 vehicles and 1,126 individuals, while also inspecting 43 business premises, leading to eight reports.
In a separate high-profile incident in Limassol, authorities arrested a 27-year-old Israeli man and a 22-year-old Brazilian woman after discovering a sawed-off shotgun and 11 cartridges in their vehicle. The suspects have been remanded in custody for five days as investigators probe their potential involvement in planned criminal acts. Separately, subsequent raids by the MMAD anti-poaching unit on November 1 led to further discoveries, including 14,000 euros in cash, illegal ammunition, and a non-licensed flobert-type firearm at three different properties, resulting in additional arrests and charges.
Ongoing police efforts continue, with judicial proceedings pending for the suspects involved. Authorities are collaborating with international agencies to investigate the backgrounds of those detained, particularly regarding the origin of the weapons seized.
