Humanitarian aid convoy reaches Oleshky following ceasefire
A humanitarian mission involving the Ukrainian Ombudsman Dmytro Lubinets and his Russian counterpart Yana Lantratova has arrived in the Russian-occupied city of Oleshky following a ceasefire declared on Tuesday, October 27, 2026. The operation, described by Ukrainian negotiator David Arakhamia as a significant de-escalation since the start of the conflict in February 2022, involves the delivery of food, medical supplies, and aid to the city's residents.
During the night, a convoy of 25 buses with a capacity of at least 750 passengers was prepared to evacuate civilians and their pets. Russian officials stated that demining operations were underway to facilitate the distribution of aid, while both ombudsmen were filmed meeting at the location to coordinate the logistics. This humanitarian effort follows weeks of reported severe shortages for the local population living under occupation since the early stages of the invasion.
While the situation remains ongoing, officials expect the distribution of aid to be finalized within the next 24 to 48 hours. The mission is being monitored by international observers, including a team of journalists from Newsmax, as the parties work to provide safe passage for those wishing to leave the region.
