Cyprus state budget implementation shows improvement in the first nine months of 2026
The Treasury of the Republic of Cyprus published a report on Friday regarding the state budget implementation for the first nine months of 2026. Data shows that development expenditures reached €711.6 million, accounting for 44% of the annual budget, which compares favorably to the 41% recorded in the same period of 2025 and significantly exceeds the ten-year average of 36%. Total development expenditure for 2026 is projected at €1.62 billion.
State revenues for the January–September period reached €7.51 billion, covering 70% of annual forecasts, compared to €6.84 billion during the same timeframe in 2025. Actual state expenditures for the period amounted to €7.01 billion, representing a 61% implementation rate, up from 59% in the previous year. The Treasury noted that the increase in revenue, which rose by €670 million compared to 2025, was primarily driven by higher direct and indirect tax collections. Conversely, total expenditures saw a more modest increase of €410 million over the same period, suggesting improved fiscal oversight or efficiency in public spending management.
